There is no shortage of cultural activities you can enjoy during your vacation in the Kelowna (shows, exhibits & performances).
The new Kelowna Art Gallery on Water Street, provides an impressive showcase for local, regional, national and international artists. The main objective of the gallery is to display the creativity of valley residents, plus provide a venue for travelling exhibits of significance. 250-762-4544.
Geert Maas Sculpture Gardens and Gallery offer a uniquely rewarding cultural experience to interested tourists and art lovers. The acclaimed artist exhibits one of the largest Canadian collections of bronze sculptures, complemented by two and three-dimensional works in a wide range of media. Maas' work enjoys an excellent international reputation and is featured in prestigious public, corporate and private collections in more than 20 countries. The inspiration and sensitivity of Maas' work mark him as one of Canada's most dynamic and versatile artists, making the Geert Maas Sculpture Gardens a must see. Located 10 Km North on Hwy. 97 then West on Sexsmith Rd. to 250 Reynolds Road. The gallery is open May to October, Monday thru Saturday or year round by appointment. 250-860-7012.
For more sculptures, including marble, soapstone and bronze, you'll enjoy browsing through the Bronze Rooster Gallery in downtown Kelowna. They also have a fine collection of original Canadian paintings. 559 Lawrence Avenue. 250-868-2533.
A short drive down Pandosy Avenue along the lake shore will take you to Turtle Island Gallery where you'll find an impressive array of original First Nations works of art including many by local artists and artisans. 2950 Pandosy Street. 250-717-8235.
The Okanagan Symphony Orchestra presents a series of full orchestral concerts featuring renowned guest artists throughout the year. An exciting season is presented every year. 250-763-7544.
Sunshine Theatre is Kelowna's only professional theatre company. Sunshine started out as summer-stock theatre, but recently changed to a winter-season company. All performances to take place at the Kelowna Community Theatre. 763-4025.
The Kelowna Jazz Festival is an annual event usually held in August. If you're planning a visit during this time, contact the Kelowna Visitors and Convention Bureau for more information. 250-861-1515.
Also the B.C. Interior Jazz Festival is held in April and features a variety of Canadian jazz musicians performing in a variety of locations. Call 250-762-2049 for more information.
The first of two Okanagan Wine Festivals takes place in May, while the grand fall festival is scheduled for early October. Both are a celebration of Okanagan wine and food and include numerous dinners, tastings and tours. Call the Wine Festival office at 250-861-6654.
Recognizing the diverse multicultural influences in the city, the annual Folkfest July 1 at the Memorial Arena features performances and foods from a variety of ethnic groups. Call 250-765-5979.
The Kelowna Philharmonic Festival Society will host the Mozart Festival, a week of concerts in July featuring the works of the great artist. Locations to be announced. Call 250-764-0220.
July is busy in the city with the Kelowna Regatta and Mardi Gras. The Regatta is an outdoor festival at City Park with water and land events and entertainment for the whole family. Mardi Gras is a community street festival with entertainment and concessions at a variety of downtown locations.
