Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

What is a Home Page

A Home Page is a text file which includes Hyper Text Markup Language (HTML) "Tags" which "Browsers" (like Netscape) use to interpret the desired format in which to display your Page. In addition to formating the display of a Page, these "HTML Tags" are also used to display special Graphics (Logos etc.) and create "Links" to other Pages or Sites.

The Home Page may be a simple stand alone Page, or it may consist of many Interlinking Pages containing a variety of information. Multiple Pages are used when detailed information on a number of Topics, cannot be effectively presented by one Page alone.

A typical "Home Page Package" for a small business consists of the "Introductory Page" (most commonly referred to as the "Home Page") and 3 - 5 Interlinking Pages of information.

What do I need to have My Own Home Page

First you need a place to store the text files (that comprise your "Home Page Package") that is accessible to other people on the Internet using their "Browser". This storage space is Disk space on an Internet Provider's Server. Your local Internet Provider can rent this storage space to you at a nominal monthly fee. The fees vary from one Provider to the next depending on their operating costs and the amount of space you require. (1 megabyte of space is usually available for $25. per month and will hold a very large Package).

Second you have to create (or purchase) the files that will comprise your "Home Page Package". This is not difficult if you understand Hypertext Markup Language (HTML) and you are able to create the Graphics required.

Third you will want to register your "Home Page" location (URL) with the "Search Engines" commonly used by people on the Web, so others can find the information you are presenting.

Fourth you will need to be able to access the files comprising your "Home Page Package" to make changes. Your information and your message will change from time to time. Also you will want to give yourself a "New Look" periodically to keep your "Site" interesting. This will encourage people to visit your "Site" often and tell other people to do the same.
